Guide
Crystal Reports end-of-support dates.
SAP sets a separate maintenance end date for each Crystal Reports product. Check the date for the product your application uses.
End of mainstream maintenance by product
These dates come from SAP's Crystal Products end of mainstream maintenance dates page. Reviewed October 8, 2026. SAP says that its Product Availability Matrix (PAM) takes precedence if the two differ.
| Crystal Reports 2016 | December 31, 2022. Priority-one support ended December 31, 2024. Crystal Reports Viewer 2016 and Crystal Server 2016 have the same dates. |
|---|---|
| Crystal Reports 2020 | December 31, 2026. SAP moved this date from 2025. Crystal Reports Viewer 2020 and Crystal Server 2020 have the same date. |
| Crystal Reports 2025 | December 31, 2027. Crystal Reports Viewer 2025 and Crystal Server 2025 have the same date. |
| Crystal Reports for Visual Studio | December 31, 2029. SAP moved this date from 2027. It covers the developer version and its .NET runtime. |
| 32-bit Crystal Reports .NET runtime | Not supported after December 31, 2025. Service Pack 40 no longer supports the 32-bit runtime and merge modules. |
| Crystal Reports for Eclipse | December 31, 2029. |
SAP also lists a planned Crystal Reports 2027 release. Its estimated availability is the first quarter of 2027.
SAP's Crystal Reports download page shows earlier dates for two products: December 31, 2027 for Crystal Reports for Visual Studio SP40, and December 31, 2026 for Crystal Reports for Eclipse SP32. If a date affects a decision, confirm it in the PAM.
What changes after the date
SAP's maintenance page says that customer-specific maintenance follows the end of mainstream maintenance for current products. SAP's BI maintenance strategy (October 2025) describes that phase:
- Security fixes for very high and high issues during the first 12 months.
- No new support packages, patches, or hot fixes after those 12 months.
- Further work on an unmaintained version is a paid consulting service.
The Crystal Solutions FAQ says that the desktop products have no maintenance or software assurance program. Check your own SAP contract for the terms that apply to you.
What the dates mean for a .NET application
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio is maintained until 2029, but it runs on .NET Framework only. Section D of the Crystal Solutions FAQ says that it "depends on a lot of .NET Framework-specific features" and that there are "NO plans to update to Framework higher than 4.8".
- Moving to .NET 8, .NET 10, or later: the maintenance date does not help. The SAP runtime does not support modern .NET.
- Staying on .NET Framework: SAP's supported platforms document says that only the latest support package is supported. Service Pack 40 adds Visual Studio 2026 and supports .NET Framework 4.6, 4.7, and 4.8.
- 32-bit applications: SAP's maintenance page says "Move to 64bit CR .NET Runtime ASAP." See bitness errors before you switch.
Your options
- Stay on the SAP runtime with .NET Framework on Windows, and keep it on the latest support package.
- Redesign the reports in another reporting tool. This means rebuilding each report.
- Keep the
.rptfiles and render them on .NET 10 with Narity Reporter. It reads the files directly and needs no SAP runtime. It is in preview, so compare its PDFs with your Crystal output first.
The migration guide covers the third option step by step. The current limitations list what to check.
